🌿 What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, translated as “the science of life”, is an ancient system of holistic medicine that views health as harmony between body, mind, spirit, and the rhythms of nature.

At the heart of Ayurveda is the recognition that we are not separate from the world around us. Just as the tides follow the moon and flowers turn toward the sun, our bodies too are governed by cosmic forces — patterns of energy, heat, movement, and stillness.

We are, quite literally, the second denominators of the Sun.
The plants are the first — they drink in the sunlight and convert it into nourishment through photosynthesis. When we eat plants — whether it's vibrant greens, warming spices, or even a simple bowl of rice — we’re consuming that solar intelligence secondhand.
This is why Ayurveda reveres food as medicine: everything we eat is part of a lineage of light.

In this lineage, every living being — you, me, a banyan tree, even a grain of basmati — is born with a unique constitution (prakṛti). Just like no two leaves are the same, no two humans are either. Our constitution reflects our personal ratio of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and space), and how those elements express as doṣas:

  • Vāta (air & space – movement, creativity, lightness)

  • Pitta (fire & water – digestion, transformation, sharpness)

  • Kapha (earth & water – stability, nourishment, calm)

Everything in nature has a constitution — and everything can either support or disturb our balance.

Ayurveda teaches us to listen deeply to what is happening within us and around us. When we understand our own nature, and the qualities of what we consume — food, sounds, people, seasons — we can begin to make choices that restore harmony.

So whether you're brewing tulsi tea, practicing yoga at dawn, or massaging your skin with warm oil — you're not just performing a ritual. You’re participating in an ancient relationship between sun, plant, and soul.

This is Ayurveda. A return. A remembrance. A rebalancing.
